SLOW AND STEADY
The Green Knight - David Lowery
Every single mile I put in is one more toward a form of growth I had been complacent to for several months. My running has been a physical representation of “slow and steady.” The small actions I take every single day are the actions that represent a whole later down the road. Eventually, I’ll make it, I probably won’t die because I’m taking my time. One step after another and I make one mile, two, three, and on. It’s just the time I spend with myself letting me know that I have the power to actually do something I didn’t know I could do, and also granting me the space to take my time and think through whatever is on my mind.
If running is a representation of “slow and steady” then the real life’s work is also the small points of work that we put in every day. We are the sum of our every day, every moment, every second. The steps we take every day can compound into either something positive or negative. My writing every day sets me up with millions of words, but it was hundreds of thousands before that, and thousands of words before that. My newsletters that I’ve written are up in the 100s, (I guess I’m not that great with milestones, only in retrospect) that took me a little over a year to accomplish, but I kept putting in the writing sessions.
When we look at those around us we see a complete individual, an entirety of a being, someone who is who they are because of all that they have done before them, and those who have surrounded them. It’s impossible to copy someone because of extensive difference one person is to another. There are tools and trades to adopt, but the only thing you have with you is you.
Wherever it is you wish to go, slow and steady, put in the miles, put in the steps, put in the sessions. Once per day turns into 365/year, and usually you can start increasing your reps.
Once per day = 365/year
Twice per day = 730/year
